Now 35, Sascha Augustin grew up in Innsbruck (Austria) and also spent much of his childhood in Italy. He recalls that period as being “one of the best and most important times in my life – until now! I started to communicate with people from different countries with different backgrounds in different languages to learn more about the world and its people.

Sascha worked at his parents’ art gallery in Innsbruck for several years before, at the age of 25, deciding to open an art gallery in Vienna. Two years ago he opened another art gallery in Port Andratx, which he runs from March to October, returning to the Vienna gallery in winter.

The galleries work with artists who have exhibitions throughout Europe, mainly from Germany and Austria. “Our services range from modern graphics, oil paintings, watercolour paintings and objects to selected originals of classic modernism. In addition to high class objects from Glass Studio Borowski, in our gallery you will find a large selection of exclusive fashion jewellery created by internationally renowned designers.”

When did you first arrive in Mallorca?

The first time I visited Mallorca was 16 years ago. in 2009 I came back and opened the gallery.

What originally appealed to you about the island?

I like the island because you have everything here, from beaches to mountains, quiet places, party places, with different people from all over the world. Also it’s very close to Austria and Germany.

Where is your favourite place in Mallorca?

Palma and Port Andratx.

Do you travel regularly to the other Balearic Islands?

No, Mallorca is the only Balearic island I’ve known, so far.

What is the most fascinating place you have visited around the world?

I can’t tell you; there are so many. I have visited many different places all over the world from America to Asia.

How much time are you connected to the internet each day?

I’m connected all day, when I’m working.

Are you a member of any of the social networking sites – Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin?

I use Facebook to be being connected with friends worldwide.

What do you like to do in your spare time? Any main hobby? Favourite sport?

I meet friends and people, I go to bars and restaurants, or I sit in the sun and enjoy a glass of wine.

What is your favourite Mallorcan dish?

Grilled seafood and fish.

If you could arrange a dinner party with any three people of your choice, who would they be?

They should be intelligent, cosmopolitan, democratic… I don’t really have three favourite people.

If you were banished to a desert island, what book would you take with you?

I hope this would never happen! An internet connection would be fine! I love animals, but the conversation would be too one-sided.

What word or phrase do you think your family and friends would use to define you?

I really have no idea… maybe positive thinking, cooperative, always trying to find out the best part of someone. I really don’t think about it. If someone likes me, fine; if not, I don’t care.

What would have been your second choice as a profession?

I grew up at an art gallery with artists around me, and this is what I want to do.

What makes you happy?

Intelligent conversation with interesting people from all over the world.

What is your worst fear?

That the European Union breaks apart because of nationalism, racism and stupid people who fear what they don’t know or understand

Any special goal in life that you have not fulfilled yet?

It would be beautiful to spend a part of my life in different countries all over the world.

What is your guilty pleasure?

You should not know everything about me!
